E-3 Visa Eligibility Requirements: An Australian citizen in a specialty occupation must meet the general academic and occupational requirements for the position. A specialty occupation is a job that typically requires the attainment of a bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent. In other words, the position must be at the professional level and the E-3 visa applicant must have a degree (or equivalent experience) in the field of endeavor. Additionally, the E-3 visa must be sponsored by a U.S. employer.
E-3 Visa Additional Information: There is currently an annual limit of 10,500 E-3 visas. E-3 dependents (spouses and children) are not counted toward this annual limit, nor are E-3 extension applications. An important fact to note is that this quota is extremely high- even more so when considering that only 900 Australians were granted H-1B Work Visas. Remember that the benefit of an E-3 Work Visa is reserved solely for Australian citizens, and therefore an Australian Citizen desiring to work in the United States in qualifying occupations will have a much easier time applying for an E-3 Work Visa than an H-1B Work Visa wherein the applicant is pitted against thousands of other highly qualified applicants all over the world. In the long run, acquiring an E-3 Work Visa is exceptionally advantageous to those who qualify since these visas may be renewed indefinitely whereas H-1B Work Visas eventually expire.
